Metropolitan Tikhon to open October Lecture Series dedicated to Autocephaly
On Tuesday October 8 at 7:30pm, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon will deliver the inaugural lecture of Saint Tikhon Seminary’s 2019 October Lecture Series. Metropolitan Tikhon’s lecture, titled “Primacy and Service”, will be the first in a series of lectures celebrating the 50th year of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in America.
Archpriest John Parker, Dean of St Tikhon’s noted, “For the Orthodox Church in America, it is also momentous, in that the Lectures will be held in the newly-renovated Convocation Hall, the site of the First All-American Sobor in 1970. It is a rich blessing not only for the Seminary, but also for the living history of the Orthodox Church in America, as we labor to fulfill the Great Commission in this land.”
Metropolitan Tikhon’s lecture coincides with the celebration of the feast day of Saint Tikhon of Moscow, the patron saint of His Beatitude. The lecture will follow the celebration of the All Night Vigil for the feast in the monastery Church at 4:30pm. The Divine Liturgy for the feast will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 9th at 7:30am in the monastery church.
The lecture series will continue on each of the following Tuesdays during October. The other lectures will focus on a consideration of the documents and reflections of others on autocephaly, the mission of the OCA and its autocephaly, and a review of the canonical tradition as it relates to autocephaly. The series schedule is posted below.
