New scholarship to benefit female students at St. Tikhon’s Seminary

Saint Tikhon’s Seminary here recently announced the establishment of the LuAnn Motel Scholarship Fund by the Motel family—husband Donald; sons Dr. Peter Motel, Andrew Motel, Esq. and Stephen Motel; and daughter Dr. Marta Motel Grewell—in loving memory of their wife and mother LuAnn.

According to Archpriest Dennis Swencki, Seminary CFO and Development Director, the scholarship will aid one or more female students enrolled in the Master of Divinity Program at Saint Tikhon’s.

LuAnn’s life was a living tribute to the service of others in her Church life, as one of the founding members and later warden of Saint Herman’s Church, Gradyville, PA, as well as in her professional life as an oncology nurse at Philadelphia’s Hahnemann Hospital.  What set her apart, much like the Myrrhbearing Women, was her incredible strength and lack of fear, regardless of the cross laid before her.  She was an inspiration to all who knew her, and the establishment of this scholarship fund in her memory is a true testimony of the incredible love and respect of her family, who will continue to honor her by helping others complete their seminary studies and go on to serve the Church.

Initial funding of this scholarship of $25,000.00 has been given by the Motel Family.  “Anyone may contribute to this fund, and even the smallest gift will allow us to continue to help our female students and encourage more to consider attending the seminary,” Father Dennis added.
