OCA Department of Institutional Chaplaincies member appointed to BCCI leadership
Chaplain Sarah Byrne-Martelli, MDiv BCC, a member of the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Institutional Ministries has been appointed to the BCCI Chaplaincy Certification Commission—the national board that oversees the certification and endorsement of health care chaplains across the US.
The BCCI is a partner of the Association of Professional Chaplains. In this role, Sarah will oversee policies, procedures, and documentation for chaplaincy certification.
Sarah was one of two OCA women first endorsed for chaplaincy in 2003. She received a Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School and went on to serve as the Palliative Care Chaplain at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York and Sutter Hospice in California. Currently, she serves as Staff Chaplain with Beacon Hospice, Beverly, MA and regularly offers presentations on hospice and end-of-life issues at local parishes and for a variety of organizations.
