Recent issue of OCA’s young adult “Wonder” blog looks at “Modern Martyrdom”

St. Alexander Schmorell

The May edition of “Wonder,” the blog of the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries, is now available.

This month’s theme is “Modern Martyrdom” and focuses on stories and reflections of martyrdom and witness in our time.

The highlight of this issue is an interview with Father Roman Braga of Dormition of the Mother of God Monastery, Rives Junction, MI.  Father Roman grew up in Romania and suffered persecution and imprisonment under the Communist Regime there.

Other articles include accounts of Saint Maria Skobstova by Father Michael Plekon, the recently glorified Saint Alexander Schmorell by Jim Forest, and the New Martyrs of Butovo in Russia.  The issue also includes an account of celebrating Pascha on a submarine and a short editorial on martyrdom in our modern world.

The theme of the June 2012 edition of Wonder will be “Burnout.”  It will focus on the spiritual aspects of burnout and fatigue in the workplace, at school, and in Church life.  The deadline for submissions is June 10, 2012.

As always, readers are invited to submit articles, creative writing, artwork, poetry, photos, and videos for future installments. Suggested topics are always welcome. Send all materials and comments to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
