STOTS to hold second annual joint retreat for alumni, seminarians
The Alumni Association of Saint Tikhon’s Seminary [STOTS] will hold its second annual retreat for alumni and current seminarians August 31-September 1, 2017.
“All alumni are welcome to attend at no cost, and there will be an opportunity for those who live far away to register for an on-line broadcast of the seminars and annual meeting,” said Priest Patrick Burns, STOTS Alumni Association President. “Featured speakers will include Drs. David and Mary Ford. Participants in the full retreat will earn five continuing education credits.
“As with last year’s hugely successful retreat, we are once again hoping alumni will take advantage of this opportunity to earn credits, catch up with fellow alumni, participate in the monastery services, and spend time with current and incoming seminarians,” Father Patrick added. “This year we will be having an informal round of golf prior to the start of events at the seminary, all in the hopes of bolstering more alumni fellowship.”
The theme for Thursday’s session with Dr. Mary Ford will be “The Eternality of Marriage and a Case Study of Biblical Exegesis,” while Friday’s session with Dr. David Ford—“Sing to Your Soul: A Festival of Wisdom on the Christian Life in the Writings of Saint John Chrysostom”—will explore dealing with despondency in the saint’s letters to the Deaconess Saint Olympia. In addition to the seminars, there will be a small group discussions and prayer in the monastery church.
“We hope this retreat, developed from suggestions by our alumni, is now on its way to becoming a new tradition, fostering deeper relationships among alumni and current seminarians over time,” said Archpriest Steven Voytovich, STOTS Dean.
