Weirton, WV site of FOCA Summer Sports Tournament July 26-28
This year’s national Summer Sports Tournament, sponsored by the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America [FOCA], will be hosted by the Weirton Orthodox Christian Fellowship the weekend of July 26-28, 2013.
Golfing will be held on Friday and Saturday at the Ponderosa Golf Course, Hooktown, PA—a challenging but fair course, according to the FOCA’s Nicholas Ressetar. Golf will start at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Golfers may play both or either day. Course details are available at www.ponderosagolfcourse.com. Deadline for entry is July 5; registration forms are available at www.orthodoxfellowship.org.
Golfers will be lodged at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh International Airport, 1160 Thorn Run Road, Coraopolis, PA. The hotel is located about 15 miles from the golf course. Special room rates are $109.00 for a standard room with two doubles. For reservations, call 412-262-2400 by July 5 and mention “FOCA Orthodox Church” to obtain the discount rate.
An open house will be held on Friday night, while an awards banquet will take place at the golf course on Saturday. The buffet dinner—cost is $35.00—will feature roast beef, chicken and all the “fixins.”
Sunday Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Saint Nicholas Church, Weirton, at 9:30 a.m.

Established in 1927 as the Federated Russian Orthodox Clubs to unite Orthodox Christians in faith, fellowship and service, the FOCA petitioned the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America to be officially recognized by the OCA. At its 1998 national convention, the organization adopted its present name. It maintains chapters in dozens of parishes across the country.
