Parish Background

In 2006 a small group of Orthodox Christians in Victoria contacted Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas about forming a mission. His Eminence directed Fr Dimitri Cozby, at that time on leave of absence, to meet with the group. The result was the formation of a mission station. On June 18, 2006, (The Sunday of All Saints), the mission station began meeting under the auspices of the Orthodox Church in America with Fr. Dimitri communting trom San Antonio, Texas. It is from this first Liturgy on the Sunday of All Saints that the mission took its name. Initially the Sunday Liturgy was held twice a month and later three or four times a month, in a waiting room at a clinic, Victoria Eye Center. Saturday evening Vespers were added to the worship schedule in 2008. That same year 15 acres were donated to the mission. A temple was built on the property in 2009, with the first Liturgy celebrated in the new temple on St Herman Day, December 13, 2009. At that time the congregation was elevated from mission station to mission status. Fr Dimitri moved from San Antonio to Victoria to become the mission’s first resident priest in January 2011.
