Parish Background

St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church is celebrating their 17th anniversary of their founding this year.  The Church was first founded in 1988 by Archimandrite (now Bishop) NIKOLAI (Soraich) in response to the need for an English speaking mission in the Las Vegas area.  The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated on November 13, 1988 on the Feast Day of St. John Chrysostom.  The parish met in various locations for many years until it acquired its own property on Annie Oakley Drive.  The parish grew and thrived and became the fastest growing mission in the Orthodox Church in America since autocephaly was granted in the 1970 by the Russian Orthodox Church.

The community worshipped in the community hall until the present Church was constructed.  The Church was consecrated on May 13, 1995 by His Beatitude Metropolitan THEODOSIUS and His Grace Bishop TIKHON.  The parish is in the continual process of completing the iconography and other buildings on the grounds.

The parish is an extremely diverse community.  There are a large number of converts in additon to a large Russian, Eritrean, Ethiopian and other Eastern European population.  While English is the primary language of the services, other languages may be used as the need arises.  The parish maintains a very active schedule of services and events throughout the year.  There are also many groups and programs for parisioners to be involved in not only Church-wide work but also community service.

More information on the parish can be found at the website www.lasvegasorthodox.com

We welcome all visitors and inquirers to St. Paul the Apostle Orthodox Church.
