Parish Background

St. John the Merciful is a mission church to serve the South Orlando and Kissimmee communities founded in 2019 out of St. Stephen’s Orthodox Church in Longwood (north Orlando). After starting with five families from St. Stephen’s holding reader’s services with occasional liturgies with visiting priests, the mission was assigned their first priest Fr. Phillip in 2021 and Fr. David arrived in June 2023.

From the original “five families” St. John’s has grown to a current Sunday average of eighty men, women, and children who participate in the services, ministries, and activities of our parish community. We are the closest English-language Orthodox Church to major Orlando theme parks such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Sea World. We regularly welcome Orthodox vacationers as well as locals who wish to learn about the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

St. John’s is a growing church community made up of Orthodox Christians from various places, ethnicities, languages, and backgrounds. Our services are reverent, beautiful, and are entirely in English. We’d love to have you visit and worship with us!
