By a flood of tears you made the desert fertile, / and your longing for God brought forth fruits in abundance. / By the radiance of miracles you illumined the whole universe! / O our holy father John, pray to Christ our God to save our souls!
Kontakion — Tone 1
O most wise John, you did not love earthly glory, / so you became a fool, / desiring to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, / you received beatings and insults, and endured nakedness and heat; / now that you rejoice with the Angels, / pray to Christ God for our souls.
