Session 3B: Story Examples
1. There is a woman who is the daughter of an Orthodox priest. Several years ago this woman had a very serious form of cancer. She went through many treatments and her cancer seemed gone, but it was not. After about two years they found it again, and this time it was much worse. We all thought that she might die. Many doctors felt that there was nothing more that could be done for her. One night seven priests came to our Church and did the service of Holy Unction. They read seven Gospels and anointed her seven times. Even though she was in tremendous pain she stood in the middle of the Church the whole time. For the next year we prayed for her and with her. During all that time she rarely missed a service. Her cancer is gone now. They have looked everywhere in her body for it, because they know it was there. But it’s gone now. God has truly worked in her life, and in the lives of all of us who know her.
2. When people are baptized they are baptized “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” We look to the cross to help and protect us. There is a young girl who was afraid of the dark. One day she stayed late at a friend’s house, and had to run home alone. As she stood out in the dark night she was really scared. She made the sign of the cross and said “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” and started to run. She kept making the sign of the cross and saying the words and running until she got home. Afterwards she remembered that she was not afraid as long and she was praying.
