The Rite of Burial for a Priest will be celebrated for Archpriest Paul White, 78, at Saint Nicholas Church, 58 Seneca Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA on Thursday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m. The Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, January 30, at 9:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Centralia, PA.
Father Paul fell asleep in the Lord on Sunday, January 25, 2015 after a lengthy illness.
On Wednesday, January 24, visitation will be held at the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 330 Shaw Ave., McKeesport, PA from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00 p.m. A Panikhida will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. Further visitation will be held at Wilkes-Barre’s Saint Nicholas Church on Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m., two hours before the Rite of Burial.
Born September 21, 1936 in Homestead, PA, the son of the late Sue Maxwell White [John] Homer and the late Reynolds White, Father Paul was a graduate of Saint Tikhon’s Seminary, South Canaan, PA. After his marriage to the former Pauline Babilya White, he was ordained to the priesthood in December 1970. His parish assignments included Saints Peter and Paul Church, Edinboro-Crossingville, PA; Saint John the Divine Church, Monessen, PA; and Saint Mary Church, Masontown, PA. He and Matushka Pauline faithfully served Saint Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, for 28 years.
Talented in music, he was a member of the Pittsburgh Russian Orthodox Male Chorus and the Northeastern Balalaika Group.
Father Paul’s wife, Matushka Pauline, fell asleep in the Lord on April 22, 2010. He is survived by two sons, David [Kera] White, Memphis, TN, and Mark White, West Mifflin, PA; two daughters, Matushka Tanya [Archpriest Andrew] Nelko, Campbell, OH, and Matushka Natasha [Priest Dimitri] Ermakov, West Mifflin, PA; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
