Daria Petrykowski

Daria Darlene Petrykowski fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, July 21, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Daria was a former Chair of the Orthodox Church in America’s Department of Christian Education, of which she was a member and consultant for many years.  She also was a member of the Midwest Diocesan Council and the Board of Directors of the Cleveland-based Zoe for Life.  She served the OCA and the Midwest Diocese through involvement in a variety of commissions, committees and projects.  Her enthusiastic approach to volunteering was recognized by International Orthodox Christian Charities, from which she received the Diane Zamiska Award.  At Holy Trinity Church, Parma, OH, she served was a member of the parish council and Women’s Club, sang in the choir, and volunteered countless hours of her life.

Born in Lorain, OH, a daughter of Julius and Margaret [Tomcho] Dobos, she received her Bachelor’s Degree from Baldwin Wallace College and her Master’s Degree in French from Middlebury College, VT.  For many years she taught French and math at Olmsted Falls High School.

Daria is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jerome; a sister, Dia Dobos; brothers Donald [Connie] Dobos and David [Kathleen] Dobos; brother-in-law Jack [Sharon] Petrykowski; thirteen godchildren, five nieces and a nephew; and many great nieces and nephews.  She is further survived by many relatives in Bajerovce, Slovakia, her grandmother’s ancestral village.

Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Parma, OH from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25.  A Parastas will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26.  Archpriest Alexander Garklavs, Rector of Holy Trinity Church, will officiate.  Interment will follow at Saint Theodosius Cemetery, Brooklyn, OH.
