The Chancery of the Orthodox Church in America recently was informed that on July 22, 2017, Popadia Vasilka Stancheva Gerova, 95, wife of the late Archpriest George Gerov, fell asleep in the Lord.
Born in Preslav, Bulgaria on July 25, 1921, she and the future Father George were married in 1942. After his ordination to the priesthood the following year, they served parishes in Bulgaria until their arrival in the United States in 1962. Ten years later, they were received into the Orthodox Church in America and assigned to Holy Ascension Church, Albion, MI (1972-1974). They also served All Saints Cathedral, Detroit, MI (1974-1983) and Saint Demetrius Church, Naples, FL, which they were instrumental in establishing and from which Father George retired in 1986.
Popadia Vasilka is survived by her children Eugene Gerov and Ginka Gerova Ortega and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were celebrated on August 8, 2017 at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, Hialeah, FL, with interment in Vista Memorial Cemetery.
