Matushka Dorothy Logore Tsonis, widow of the late Priest Anastassy Tsonis, fell asleep in the Lord after a brief illness in Seattle, WA on December 21, 2016. She was a long-time Sitka resident.
Born in New York City on January 1, 1941, Matushka Dorothy attended Queens College, but ultimately earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka in 2003. She married her late husband in 1960 and moved to Sitka shortly after the catastrophic fire that claimed 17 structures in the heart of the city, including the historic Archangel Michael Cathedral. At the invitation of then Bishop Theodosius, they began the work of raising funds for its reconstruction, culminating in the consecration of the rebuilt cathedral in 1977.
Matushka Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Maria, also of Sitka, and a son Andrew of San Francisco.
A Memorial will be celebrated at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, December 28, at Archangel Michael Cathedral. The Divine Liturgy and Funeral Service will be celebrated at the cathedral at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 29. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
May Matushka Dorothy’s memory be eternal!
