Mr. Nicholas Ozerov, a former instructor at Saint Vladimir Orthodox Theological Seminary, Crestwood, NY, died after a short illness on April 16, 2003.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine on December 22, 1928, Mr. Ozerov left his homeland in 1943 and received his secondary education from the Realgymnasium for Staatenlose, Munich, Germany, in 1947. He immigrated to the United States in 1948 and began studies at Saint Vladimir Seminary the following year. After his graduation in 1954, he continued his studies at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary, from which he received a M.A. in Religion. He was awarded a Ph.D. from Columbia University, after which he served as a lecturer in Slavic languages.
Mr. Ozerov taught Old Testament and Russian at the seminary from 1958 to 1964. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he served as the seminary’s Secretary, Librarian, and Provost. He also served as choir director at Our Lady of Kazan Church, Sea Cliff, NY, where his funeral will be celebrated on Saturday April 19, 2003 at 10:30 AM.
Mr. Ozerov’s name will be added to the monument honoring the seminary’s departed faculty members.
In addition to his wife, Sophie, Mr. Ozerov is survived by three sons, Nicholas, Michael, and Serge; and six grandchildren.
