The Very Rev. Vasile Hategan, Pastor Emeritus of Saint Mary Romanian Orthodox Cathedral here, died at Lakewood Hospital on Great and Holy Friday, April 25, 2003.
Born in 1915, Father Hategan was well known as a prolific writer and publicist and an outspoken protagonist of Orthodox Christian unity in North America.
While additional biographical details have yet to be received, the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of the Orthodox Church in America has announced that Father Hategan will lie in state at Saint Mary Cathedral on Bright Tuesday, April 29, and Bright Wednesday, April 30, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial services will be celebrated both nights at 7:00 p.m. On Bright Thursday, May 1, His Eminence, Archbishop Nathaniel of Detroit and the Romanian Episcopate will celebrate the Divine Liturgy and funeral at 9:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, Father Hategan’s family requests that memorial donations be offered in his honor to Saint Mary Cathedral “Project 2004” fund.
