Protopresbyter Romulus Barr, 74, fell asleep in the Lord in retirement on Sunday, May 12, 2019.
Born in Carpimis-Alba, Romania on February 10, 1945, he married the former Maria Cimpean in 1969. He was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood the same year after completing theological studies at the Theological Seminary in Cluj-Napoca and the Faculty of Theology in Sibiu. After his arrival in the United States in 1996, he served a number of parishes in Texas, Oregon and Florida. He retired in 2010.
In 2007, he was raised to the dignity of Archpriest by the Holy Synod of Bishops of he Orthodox Church in America. Three years later, he was elevated to the rank of Protopresbyter by the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate.
Father Romulus is survived by his wife, Preoteasa Maria, and their two children: Romulus and Anca.
Funeral Services will be held at Saint Stephen the Great Church, 219 South Betty Lane, Clearwater, FL on Thursday, May 16. A Wake will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by Divine Liturgy and the Funeral Service for a Priest at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at 4:00 p.m.
