Protopresbyter Silviu Iuliu Vasilie, 81, fell asleep in the Lord on December 30, 2014.
Born on July 21, 1933 in Sinnicolau Mare, Romania, he married the former Maria Cotosman in 1958 and graduated from the seminary in Curtea de Arges in 1971. Later that year, he was ordained to the diaconate and priesthood by His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicolae of Banat and assigned to the parish in Sanpetru Mare in the Timisoara Deanery. In 1981, he graduated from the Theological Seminary in Caransebes and was assigned to the parish in Sanpetru Mare. In July 1982, he and his family immigrated to the United States.
On October 1, 1993, he was appointed parish priest of Saints Michael and Gabriel Parish, Palm Springs, CA, where he served until his retirement on February 1, 2004. In 2011, the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America elevated him to the rank of Protopresbyter for his forty years of service as a priest.
In addition to his wife, Preoteasa Maria, he is survived by three children: Vasilie, Adrian and Silvia.
