His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon and His Eminence, Archbishop Michael visited Holy Trinity Church, Elmira Heights, NY on Pentecost weekend—June 18-19, 2016—for the celebration of the parish’s 100th Anniversary.
The weekend opened with the celebration of the Pentecost Vigil on Saturday evening, after which Archpriest Jason Kappanadze, Rector, welcomed the hierarchs on behalf of the parish.
During Sunday’s Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, Reaader Sean Michael Karney was ordained to the subdiaconate. Metropolitan Tikhon and Archbishop Michael offered warm words of congratulation to Father Jason and the faithful. Archpriest Alexey Karlgut, Rector of Saints Peter and Paul Church, Endicott, NY and Dean of the New York State Deanery, also concelebrated.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, a Synodal Gramota was presented to the parish in recognition of this milestone in the community’s life and ongoing ministry.
“The joy was all ours,” said Father Jason. “It was an important and perfect weekend for the parish in many ways, especially the outgoing warmth and humility of our bishops. The faithful responded beautifully!”
An anniversary banquet followed in the parish hall.
