On Sunday, December 8, Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saint Clement of Rome. Metropolitan Tikhon was hosted by the Dean of the parish, Archpriest Leonid Kalinin. Father Kalinin is the chairman of the Russian Churches Council on Church Art, Architecture and Restoration.
The Church of Saint Clement was completed in 1769 and is one of two churches in Moscow dedicated to the martyr. The church is an excellent example of Elizabethan Baroque Architecture. The church was closed in 1934 by the Soviet Government and was thereafter used as a repository for books for the Lenin Library. The building was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in 2008.
