On Sunday, December 8, 2013, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Washington, DC. Following the Divine Liturgy, he visited the Embassy of South Africa, accompanied by Archpriest George Kokhno and Claire Nobles, the cathedral’s parish council president, where he placed flowers at the statue of the recently departed Nelson Mandela in front of the embassy.
Later the same day, Metropolitan Tikhon joined cathedral parishioners in preparing and serving meals to the homeless residents at Christ House, which provides comprehensive and compassionate health care to infirm homeless men and women in the nation’s capital. Cathedral parishioners have been volunteering and ministering at Christ House since 2000. For additional information, please visit www.christhouse.org.
