His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, presided at the 114th annual Memorial Day Pilgrimage to Saint Tikhon’s Monastery, South Canaan, PA May 25-28, 2018. Pilgrims from near and far were warmly welcomed by Abbot Sergius and the monastic brotherhood for four days of worship, spiritual renewal and fellowship on the grounds of North America’s oldest Orthodox Christian monastic community.
The faithful were especially blessed by the presence of the Hawaiian Myrrh Streaming Icon of the Iveron Mother of God, which was present throughout the weekend.
During the Pilgrimage, on Saturday, May 26, Saint Tikhon’s Seminary celebrated its 76th graduation. In addition to Metropolitan Tikhon, His Eminence, Archbishop Michael of the Diocese of New York and New Jersey, seminary Rector; His Grace, Bishop Thomas of the Diocese of Oakland, Charleston and the Mid-Atlantic of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America; and His Grace, Bishop David of Sitka and Alaska concelebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Monastery Church of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk on Saturday morning. Commencement exercises followed.
His Grace, Geevarghese Mar Coorilos of the Mumbai Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church delivered the commencement address. Receiving Master of Divinity degrees were Priest Tesfalem Beraki Mezenghy of the Eritrean Church, Valedictorian, and Deacon Rony John of the Malankara Church. Monk David [Armstrong] was recognized for completing the Saint Tikhon’s Diaconal Formation Program, while Priest John Segvich was honored for completing a one-year Certificate of Pastoral Formation.
