This year’s pilgrimage to Kodiak and Spruce Island August 7-9, 2013 marked the 43rd Anniversary of the Glorification of Saint Herman of Alaska in 1970. The pilgrimage opened with the chanting of the Akathistos Hymn in honor of Saint Herman at Kodiak’s Holy Resurrection Cathedral on Wednesday evening, August 7.
On Thursday morning, August 8, Metropolitan TIkhon presided at the celebration of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the cathedral, which was followed by a grand banquet at the King’s Diner. Concelebrating were His Eminence, Archbishop Benjamin and the clergy of the Diocese of Alaska who came to pray on this joyful occasion.
On the Eve of the feast of Glorification of the Venerable Herman of Alaska, Wonderworker of All America, the Vigil was celebrated by both hiearchs, clergy and the pilgrims.
On Friday morning, August 9, boats left Saint Paul Harbor for Spruce Island, where the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Saints Sergius and Herman of Valaam Chapel.
