This Sunday, October 11, His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated the Divine Liturgy at Saint Catherine Eastern Orthodox Church in Hagerstown, MD, with Archpriest Dennis Buck and the faithful of the community. On this day of the Commemoration of the Fathers of the 7th Ecumenical Council, His Beatitude’s homily focused on the impact that the basic teachings of the Ecumenical Councils have on our everyday lives, and how they show us the simple meaning of being Orthodox Christians. His Beatitude encouraged all present to always bear in mind the hope that we have in Jesus Christ, not being discouraged by confusion in society or by our own weakness:
“Let us take courage! For although we suffer, and we die, we remember that our Lord came to live among us, and suffered and died as one of us. When we suffer, when things are difficult, we keep in mind the Resurrection of humanity. When we feel unsure of our life’s journey, we keep in mind that we will arrive in Christ’s Kingdom without End.”
His Beatitude remains in residence at Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, Washington, DC for the time being, taking his regular course of meetings while focusing on the needs of the Archdiocese of Washington.
