On Sunday, March 18, 2018, Archpriest Jonathan Ivanoff and the faithful of Saint John the Theologian Church, Shirley, NY, welcomed His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon on his first visit to their parish.
Metropolitan Tikhon and Father Jonathan celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the Sunday of Saint John of the Ladder. At the conclusion of the Liturgy, a Litiya was celebrated for the repose of the parish’s faithful departed.
A lenten meal and informal fellowship followed in the parish hall.
Planted in 1983 as a mission community providing an Orthodox Christian presence in the eastern end of Long Island’s Suffolk County—an area containing over a half-million people—Saint John’s has grown over the years under the leadership of Father Jonathan, who will celebrate his 25th anniversary as the parish’s Rector in May 2018.
