During the second weekend of March 2017, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon visited Saint Tikhon’s Monastery and Seminary, where he attended the seminary’s Board of Trustees meeting.
On Sunday, March 12, Metropolitan Tikhon celebrated the Divine Liturgy for the second Sunday of Great Lent in the Monastery Church of Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk, during which he ordained Deacon Matthew Fuhrman to the holy priesthood. Father Matthew, who is a 1LT in the US Army, will be graduating this year and preparing for ministry as an Orthodox Military Chaplain. Among those who concelebrated with the monastic and seminary clergy and Father Matthew’s classmates were Archpriest Alexander Garklavs, Rector of Holy Trinity Church, Parma, OH, and Archpriest Theodore Boback, Rector of Saint Andrew Church, Baltimore, MD, former STOTS Alumni President and Dean of Military Chaplains. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Tikhon addressed words of support to Father Matthew and Matushka Jessica, who is a member of the OCA web team, especially noting the unique and important pastoral ministry involved in the military chaplaincy.
