On Sunday evening, February 29, 2004, Vespers for the First Sunday of Great Lent - the Triumph of Orthodoxy - was celebrated at Holy Resurrection Cathedral, Wilkes-Barre, PA. His Beatitude, Metropolitan HERMAN and His Grace, Bishop TIKHON of South Canaan concelebrated with over 30 clergy from the Wilkes-Barre and Frackville Deaneries of the Diocese of Eastern Pennsylvania, the Patriarchal Parishes, and the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America.
The Triumph of Orthodoxy commemorates the victory over iconoclasm and the restoration of the veneration of icons in Constantinople in 843 A.D.
