Department of Liturgical Music Announces Four Webinars for Church Musicians
Dr. Vladimir Morosan, a member of the OCA Department of Liturgical Music and noted Orthodox composer, editor, publisher, and choir director, will offer a series of four webinars dealing with the services of Great Lent and Holy Pascha. Each session will address a particular subtopic:
- January 23 - A Choir Director’s Preparation for Great Lent and the 1st week of Lent
- February 6 - Preparing to Sing the Liturgy of Presanctified Gifts
- February 20 - Preparing to Sing the Services of Great and Holy Week
- February 27 - Preparing to Sing the Services of Great and Holy Pascha
Each presentation will take place from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm Eastern Time, with an additional half-hour allotted for Q & A and discussion.
Within each session, topics covered will include:
- existing resources and materials
- adapting music to available singers (2-part, 3-part, 4-part, unison, etc.)
- creating and maintaining an appropriate musical ethos in the services
- the conductor’s personal and musical preparation
and various other considerations that church musicians must take into account in order to sing these services appropriately and successfully. Special consideration will be given to challenges and solutions in light of the ongoing COVID pandemic.
