OCA Department of History and Archives, Canonization Commission AAC EXHIBIT online; input requested

Taking advantage of computer technology, the exhibit of the Department of History and Archives and the Canonization Commission was created digitally for the first time for the recent 15th All-American Council. The digital format makes it possible to post the exhibit on the OCA website at www.oca.org.

The historical section of the exhibit, prepared by the Department of History and Archives, is titled “Vision of a Conciliar Church.”

It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the First All-American Sobor, held in Mayfield, PA in 1907, its key participants, and three visionary leaders of the Sobors and Councils throughout the last century.

Another section of the exhibit highlights the outreach work of the Department of History and Archives since the 14th All-American Council, held in Toronto in 2005.

The work of the Canonization Commission is featured in a third section. A key element of this section is a request for information or documentation on Metropolitan Leonty and Archbishop Arseny, whose lives are being studied by the Commission.

A fourth section pays tribute to five faithful laborers of the Department of History and Archives and/or the Canonization Commission who have reposed since the 14th All-American Council.

Alongside this exhibit at the 15th All-American Council, both the Department of History and Archives and the Canonization Commission provided a box for suggestions, comments, and questions concerning their work. Volunteers also were invited to participate in the work of the Department and/or the Commission. Such input as well as any testimony, information, or documentation on Metropolitan Leonty or Archbishop Arseny for the Canonization Commission’s review should be submitted by email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or by mail to PO Box 675, Syosset, NY 11791.

The entire original exhibit displayed at the 15th All-American Council or any of its sections are available for display in local parish communities or at special events. In other activities associated with the 15th All-American Council, the OCA Archivist presented a workshop titled “Chronicling our Heritage: Building a Parish Archives,” designed to assist those undertaking archival and historical work in their local parish communities. Some of the topics covered during this session are available online as part of the OCA “Resource Handbook for Lay Ministries,” specifically
